Moms, Here’s What You Should Know as a Breastfeeding Advocate

August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. Incidentally, August 1 to August 7 is World Breastfeeding Week. There’s no better time for you to know or review your rights as a breastfeeding mom!

Your decision to breastfeed and your everyday commitment to doing it fulfills your child’s physical and emotional needs. These should not be undervalued, as the sacrifice you make as a breastfeeding mom is incomparable. You deserve to be nurtured by the people around you, and to be protected by the laws of the land so you can continue to breastfeed despite obstacles and barriers.

In celebration of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, here is a list of what you should know as a mom so you can continue to love and care for your child through breastfeeding.

Lessons We All Need to Hear from a Full-Time Sports Mom

Sports moms are in a league of their own. They start the day early and end their day late, and treat their kids’ every game day as their own as well. They are literally everywhere – in the car trailing their kids’ buses (if they aren’t personally bringing their kids to the game), in the bleachers screaming their kids’ names at the top of their lungs, in the closest possible spot where they can capture a clear video of their kids, and – you guessed it – behind their screens updating their friends and family through a play-by-play.

Aren’t sports moms so adorable?

Behind these charming gestures is a sacrifice for days on end. Sports moms exchange their time for themselves and their rest to personally witness their kids apply what they learned from training and rehearsals, no matter what the result of the game or competition will be.

What can parents learn specifically from sports moms? Mommy Maedel Lara, a part-time lecturer, shares her story of being a dedicated and full-time sports mom. Read on and take notes!

This Teacher-Mom Shares What Kids Need More Post-Pandemic

Three years ago, kids’ lives drastically changed because of the lockdowns brought about by the pandemic. Students who attend face-to-face classes were forced to say goodbye to their classmates and teachers to attend online school indefinitely. Kids who see their friends on weekly or monthly playdates resorted to online chatting and updating. Children who usually play on the streets in the morning or in the afternoon were all inside their homes, asking endless questions about when the pandemic ever ends.

Just recently, the pandemic protocols were lifted in the Philippines. Face-to-face classes are back, and kids can now visit their friends and family. But it isn’t like they are back to their old ways in a snap of a finger. The long periods in the confines of their home affected the way they learn and interact with others, and parents and teachers are quick to notice.

Mommy Sofie Tinio, owner of The Reading Station, mom of 4 girls, and homeschooling mom for 7 years, shares with us what she noticed kids need more of now in the post-pandemic era.

Nuggets of Wisdom from Non-Parenting Books that I Use in my Parenting

One of the things I miss about my life before I became a mom is going to bookstores. Getting lost in the familiar scent of new books, hopping from shelf to shelf, and letting time go by as I peruse titles, regardless if I’m going to buy a book or not, are such treats for me. I’m sure that if only I could spend that much time now without having to worry about a baby in tow, I would go straight to the aisle of a genre I don’t pay much attention to before: parenting.

Then again, with the collection of books my husband and I have at home, it always feels like major bookstores are just a few steps away. My husband is quite the bargain hunter, and he has a knack for spotting great reads and bestsellers at affordable prices! Although we are yet to collect books from the parenting genre, I must admit that the books we currently have possess nuggets of wisdom we can use and apply in our day-to-day parenting.

Here are a few of them!
