The new year is here, and most of us have exercise and fitness as some of our New Year’s resolutions, right? But let’s face it, when you’ve got kids, a job, and a household to take care of, exercise and fitness are usually relocated to the end of your priority list. Maybe it’s the lack of time, or maybe it’s because you just don’t have the energy to haul yourself to the gym. Whatever the reason, you’re always wishing you could be more fit and healthy. Well, with a new year comes new beginnings, and we’re giving you some tips to help you stick to your fitness goals this year.
Yes, moms, you have to commit. It’s go hard or go home. If you fully commit to exercising and being fit, it just might be easier for you to actually throw on your workout clothes and hit the gym. Tell yourself that this is one non-negotiable goal for the year, and that you WILL get that toned body you’ve always wanted!
To help concretize your fitness plan, write down your goals. Give yourself a timeline and write specific and achievable goals for yourself. It’s also good to take note of the reasons you have your goals in the first place. Are you doing this for yourself? To feel better and healthier? Are you doing this for your kids? Tape your goals and reasons somewhere where you’ll see them everyday. You can even take a picture of them in your phone and place them as your wallpaper!
When it comes to exercise, you can’t just decide to do it when you feel like it. Chances are you’ll never be in the mood for it anyway, and you’ll keep putting it off (sound familiar?). Make it a point to carve out a specific time in your schedule for exercising–you don’t have to exercise everyday, two to three times a week is a good start.
It’s always easier to exercise when you’ve got a workout buddy. Try to grab some friends, your hubby, or even your kids (if possible), and try exercising together. Not only will it be more fun, but you can both cheer each other on!
If you plan on dieting to help lose some weight, it’s always best to remove all temptations from your pantry, fridge, and cabinets. The same rule applies when you’re grocery shopping. (Try to skip the aisle with chocolates and candies altogether.) Think: If you don’t have them, then you won’t be tempted by them.
Yes, photos are great motivators! Not only do they provide proof that you’re actually working out, but they also show your progress. So don’t forget to take your ‘Before’ and ‘After’ photos!
To help keep yourself going, throw in little rewards for yourself. Maybe some dessert on the weekend, a new workout outfit, a mani/pedi, or even an extra hour of sleep (if possible) in the morning. Find a reward that you’ll like, and will make you keep going!
Ready to take on your fitness goals? You can do it momma!
