Take Your Kids Through Filipino History with Budget-Friendly Family Fun in Manila

Filipino culture is filled with plenty of thrilling, joyful, dramatic, and even distressing stories, all thanks to our rich history. These practices are such a colorful part of who we are and how we live our lives, which is why it’s so important that we teach our kids to celebrate their being Filipino.

And what better way to start than spending a day in the center of several historic events, Manila! The Baby and Breakfast team visited the capital city to check out all the family fun you can have that will still teach your kids a thing or two about their own culture. Check out our video below!

For the little ones

Museong Pambata is a great spot to take your little ones to learn about the history of the Philippines and the lives of everyday Filipinos. With plenty of interactive and colorful galleries, your kids will have a ton of fun learning about important landmarks and events, our national heroes, and the lives of local vendors who are our unsung, everyday heroes.

And for some outdoor play, the Children’s Playground in between the National Museums of Anthropology and Natural History is a fun-filled park where you and your kids can spend some high-spirited quality time.

For the older kids

Supplementing what your kids learn about the country at school with the art and artifacts in the National Museum of the Philippines will be a good way to build on their appreciation for the Philippines, our history, and our culture. The National Museums of Anthropology, Fine Arts, and Natural History house groundbreaking discoveries and major works of art by the country’s most esteemed artists–all of which your kids will definitely want to learn all about!

For the whole family

Fort Santiago is both chock full of sights touched by plenty of important figures and events over the course of Philippine history and a beautiful outdoor space you and your family will definitely enjoy. Whether it’s for stylish photo-ops or even just for a day in the sun,  this citadel is another cool location for family bonding, with several history lessons to learn along the way.

Then once you and your kids are ready to chow down, head on over to Ilustrado for some delicious and classic Filipino and Spanish dishes. And with its cozy Hispanic vibe, you’ll definitely feel like you’ve gone back in time. We recommend going for their yummy bagnet and, for those of you with more adventurous tastes, their sampaguita-flavored ice cream is a must-try! You can even reserve their function rooms and avail of their different party packages for your next event!
