2020 has certainly turned most of us moms to homeschool teachers. Whether you have decided to do your preschool lessons on your own or have enrolled your child in online classes, the truth is, you’ll end up doing activities and lessons together with your child on most days! For some of us, this can be a daunting task and it can get quite overwhelming. While for some moms, some guidance to the right direction is all they need. Teacher Liana, an early childhood education specialist and one of the authors of the Kidstarter Curious Curriculum shares some simple and doable tips that can get you started. One of the most helpful things we can do for our children is to be consistent with our words and actions. With every grown-up’s schedule up in the air, children can find solace in knowing what to expect and when to expect it. If this means creating a routine and setting play expectations, do so and make sure to follow through!
As a parent, you most likely know your child inside and out including their interests, fears, hesitations, and what sparks joy in their lives. Sometimes it takes just a little extra “thinking cap” time from parents to make playtime extra special. A surprise note, a carefully curated art kit, or a blanket fort already prepared can go a long way!
Our children have fun when we’re having fun too! Keep in mind that they can spot a distracted parent from a mile away. So pack that phone away (even for 10 minutes) and give your child undivided attention even for a while. You’ll see how this will fill both your buckets to overflowing!
